Workout Motivation

Workout motivation is a key factor in exercising and keeping it up even when you feel like stopping. The Association for Applied Sport Psychology states that the fallout rate of people who start an exercise program is as high as 80 percent. This is disheartening but with the right attitude and inspiration, it is possible to make exercising a lifelong habit.

Today's modern way of living created a generation with a sedentary lifestyle. In order to have lasting motivation and discipline, start by moving around. Walking outdoors or any physical activity that won't demand much triggers a chain reaction. From there work your way up to working out and changing the way you eat.

Workout Motivation Tips

Many people who make exercising a part of their lives will tell you for sticking to it, is that they find it fun. Seeing exercise and keeping fit as chores that you need to get out of the way will dampen the desire. Some tips to help keep you going and help to build the desire to continue your efforts are:

  • Set realistic goals and targets: This is one of the main reasons why people give up as they do not see the results as quickly as they believe they should. This over expectation is usually due to having weight loss and other fitness goals that are not realistic. Starting with a 15 minute exercise program may be perfect for you while 30 minutes will work for someone else.
  • Choose activities that you like or that your body can handle. If you do not like to run, then jogging may not be the best fit for you. Likewise, if you have bad knees, taking up running or jogging is a sure way to fail and possibly injure yourself. Choosing the most popular exercise routine is not necessarily the way to find what will work for you.

The point is to just get moving; you create more momentum than just thinking of what kind of activities you can do.

  • Go for convenient times: Exercise at times that are convenient for you and then make this a priority. Time (or the lack thereof) shouldn't be an excuse for your health.
  • Avoid boredom: Make sure that your routine has a mix of activities so that it does not become boring.
  • Two are better than one: Having support is a great way to stick to any fitness routine. You can have a running partner or someone who will go to the gym with you. Some people make exercising a family affair and if one person is not up to it, others will give you encouragement to get up and go.
  • Do something anyway: On days when you really cannot get into your regular routine due to time, bad weather conditions or even illness, try to do a light routine such as stretching if possible.

Motivational Workout Quotes

Many people seek the inspiration and workout motivation they need by reading quotes. Pasting some of these quotes in easy to see places provide the drive you need. Some appropriate quotes on this topic are:

"If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health"

~ Hippocrates

"Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live"

~ John Rohn

"If you don’t do what’s best for your body, you’re the one who comes up on the short end"

~  Julius Erving

"Most of us think we don’t have enough time to exercise. What a distorted paradigm! We don’t have time not to. We’re talking about three to six hours a week – or a minimum of thirty minutes a day, every other day. That hardly seems an inordinate amount of time considering the tremendous benefits in terms of the impact on the other 162 – 165 hours of the week"

 ~  Stephen Covey

Workout motivation is easy for those who really want to find a way to change their attitudes towards maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It takes small changes in attitude and approach, but over time exercising regularly can become a habit that is hard to break.

Do not give up if occasionally your drive slows down, this is normal, but the trick is to try to keep going. Apart from knowing that you are doing something for you, the way you feel after exercising, both physically and emotionally could be all the driving force you need to stick to your fitness routine.
